Living with God: Mysteries of the Jesus Prayer
Insight and wisdom from ancient and living Christian spiritual masters are the focus of Livng with God: Mysteries of the Jesus Prayer, a feature film documentary that illuminates the mysteries of existence. Living with God is told in the present as two spiritual seekers set out on a pilgrimage to trace the footsteps of the ancient spiritual masters - monks, hermits and sages of the 1st to 12th centuries in the Christian East who lived in caves and the first monasteries in Egypt, Israel (Roman Palestine), Syria, Greece, Romania and Russia.
Award-winning filmmaker Norris J. Chumley, in the company of priest/historian John McGuckin, trace the footsteps of the legendary desert hermits, monks and nuns who fled the noise and decadence of city life to dedicate themselves to the life of the spirit.
Employing the most cutting-edge documentary strategies, Chumley and McGuckin are committed to bringing this largely unknown chapter of early Christian history to life.
Hartley Update
Initial funds have been raised and principal photography is three-quarters completed for both Living with God: Mysteries of the Jesus Prayer, and an outreach project and ecumenical youth-dialogue, An Open Window. Producers Norris J. Chumley and Rev. Dr. John McGuckin were granted the rare privilege of filming inside monasteries in Greece, Mt. Athos, Mt. Sinai, Egypt and Romania, and conducted interviews with monks and nuns who spoke for the first time on-camera about their innermost practices. Plans are underway to complete filming in the Ukraine and Russia in early 2008. Editing and distribution is scheduled for late 2008.
